We’ve been decluttering and the hardest part is figuring out how to get the stuff out of the house. Our garbage company offers a 12 bag pick up twice a year, but any extra garbage disposal, besides our regular weekly garbage pickup, is extra.
The cost for the smallest dumpster rental box from our garbage company is $342.31 for 5 cubic yards. From past years of renting a dumpster, we’ve come across some issues.
First, we never have enough time to fill up the dumpster box! It doesn’t matter if it’s a week or two, we have never fully filled it and it’s stressful to be on a deadline because the dumpster box rental is for a limited time. And we have always had to add more time and pay extra.
Second, you have to leave an open parking spot, on the street, in front of your house, to use the dumpster. So depending on where you live, if you’re in an area where parking is limited, that can be difficult to do. And you always have to lug the items down the driveway to get to the dumpster.
Third, the smallest dumpster size is too large and costly.
What is a dumpster bag?
Junk King’s dumpster bag or the JK Dumpster Bag® is like smaller form of dumpster with handle straps. When you receive it, it’s folded up and you unfold it to use.
The dumpster bag is made of a tarp-like, heavy duty material and it doesn’t take that much space. It’s convenient in that you can place the bag anywhere, keeping in mind that it has to be placed in your driveway, lawn, or curb for pickup later.
It is a bag though so the sides don’t hold up on its own, so I put items on the edges to hold up the bag.
Also, this is a work in progress so I haven’t fully filled it up yet. But you can see that I put a lot of stuff in there already and there’s plenty of room for more!
I was able to fit an office chair, 2 luggages, 2 garbage bags, a fold up table, a computer monitor, 2 trash cans, a box, and a basket of stuff.
What size is the dumpster bag?
It’s 4-feet wide, 8-feet long, and just 2.5 feet tall. In total, it’s 32 square feet or 3 cubic yards. And it can hold up to 3,000 pounds.
When the bag is fully open, the dimensions are a little larger than a twin size bed.
In comparison, the smallest dumpster box size from the garbage company is 5 cubic yards.
How much does a dumpster bag cost?
First, you buy the bag itself, which is $27.99 plus the cost of tax and shipping. Then when you’re ready for Junk King to come pick up the bag, it’s currently $195 (in my area) but I’m told the price is changing.

But it will give you an idea of the ballpark cost. Compared to the smallest dumpster box rental, which is $342 for 5 cubic yards, it’s a lower priced alternative.
Dumpster Bag vs. Dumpster Rental
What I love about this dumpster bag is that you can take your time to declutter and fill the bag. There’s no deadline, time table, or pressure, like you get with a dumpster rental. It makes it a convenient solution for busy families who want to clean up when they have time in their schedule.
Also, with the dumpster bag, certain electronics are allowed like flat screen TV’s or computer monitors.
Costs: Dumpster bag with pick up (3 cubic yards) is around $234 vs. dumpster box (5 cubic yards) with a limited rental time is $342.

What is the process for getting the dumpster bag?
1. Purchase the dumpster bag.
It will take about 4 working days to receive the bag. You buy the bag and it’s yours to keep or you can fill it up for Junk King to pick up at a later date.
2. Fill up the bag.
Take as long as you need. Be sure that the bag handles can touch on top or there may be an extra charge.
3. Contact Junk King for the dumpster bag pickup.

Things to keep in mind
I had this dumpster bag for awhile because it rained every single week for the past 6 months! You have to look ahead at the weather when planning to clean up. But this goes for dumpster rentals as well.
When it’s windy, be sure to weigh down the bag with heavy things to keep it from flying away.
Because the sides of the bag are flimsy, you can put things near the edges and corners of the bag to keep the sides standing up.
